Update Sony Xperia TX with CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean custom ROM

Sony Xperia TX is going to have its original ICS 4.0.4 updated to the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version with CM10.1 custom ROM. The process of receiving such an update on your smartphone is going to go flawless only if you have the right conditions.

have to do with various pre-requisites: root the handset if it isn’t (at the same time install a custom recovery image on it), turn on USB debugging on the TX LT29i, create backups using our tutorials, flash USB Drivers for the phone on your laptop and see if the battery of the device requires a full charge or not; if not, then continue this guide by heading over to some steps lined below this introduction.

Important instructions

  1. Step one will have you install and save, on your laptop, the following files: GApps archive from here (you must choose the file labelled gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip) and the .sony-xperia-tx
  2. Leave the two files where they are (meaning: don’t extract what they contain), then plug the smartphone to the computer. Copy, afterwards, the CM10.1 custom ROM and the Gapps to the SD card of the phone.
  3. Unplug the handset from the comp by removing the USB cord that binds them together; now go and switch your phone off. You now have to concentrate on aiding your phone reach Recovery Mode by turning it on first, then by pressing Volume Down. If it doesn’t work, try again or look online for an alternative. Now perform a task which is called NANDroid backup using this short tutorial; this will backup the current ROM that is on your smartphone and it’s all done like this: opt for Backup&Restore and choose Backup. Wait for the operation to be over.
  4. Step four: return to the phone’s Recovery Menu and perform a second task labelled data wiping; it should happen in the following way: choose Factory Reset/Wipe data and opt for Yes. At the end of the process you need to return, again, to the phone’s Recovery Menu and choose Wipe Cache Partition.
  5. The guidelines to be performed for the fifth step are the following: opt for Wipe Dalvik Cache when you’ve accessed the option whose name is Advance. After the task has been operated correctly, you will have to choose Install zip from SD card.
  6. In step six, you need to opt for Choose zip from SD card. And there is something else you should do while here: choose, by pressing Power, the downloaded custom ROM archive; you need to confirm, next, its installation by choosing Yes and selecting the file. Do what you did for this step again, but select the Google Apps package file, not the other one, to flash it on the Xperia TX LT29i. Return to the CWM menu.
  7. [sc name=”banner-jos”]Opt for the system restarting; the smartphone will reboot into the needed Jelly Bean 4.2.2 CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM after you do this.

Time and again, the device will go into an infinite boot loop; or it will remain blocked on boot stage instead. What to do in such cases is simple: operate a wipe of the cache partition and a wipe of the Dalvik cache before you reboot the phone. In order to revert to the ROM that the TX used to sport before this guide, do as follows:

  • boot it into recovery;
  • opt for Backup&Restore;
  • look for the earlier version of the ROM in a list that will pop on the touchscreen;
  • restore it by choosing it from the said list.
